The best thing to do before purchasing anything is research. With makeup, especially high-end makeup, it’s extremely beneficial to see the product on other people. Why do you think the beauty blog and Youtube worlds are so popular? While I don’t have enough lipsticks (in my opinion) to share the top 10 must-haves just yet, I do want to talk about a few of my favorites. When I say favorite, I mean these are the shades I keep on heavy rotation and add to my travel or weekender bag without a second thought.
As always, I’m NC 45/NC 50 in foundation shades for your reference. Listed in no particular order–because let’s be real, I love them all equally* for different reasons–these are my favorite MAC lipstick shades:

Amorous
Amorous is described by MAC as a “lovestruck cranberry” with a satin finish. I personally don’t get anything on the side of cranberry, but I love the color nonetheless. On my lips, it’s more of a cool-tone pink with plum undertones. Amorous a color I like to wear as the everyday mauve shade. It provides enough color to be noticed, but not so much to be the focus.
Captive
I know what you’re thinking — Chelsey, this looks just like Amorous! And to that I say, you’re pretty much right. The average person does not need both Captive and Amorous, one will do just fine. I happen to have both because I was so indecisive as to which one I wanted that I decided to leave with them and return whichever one I decided against. Clearly, I never got around to it…not to mention, there is a small difference between Captive and Amorous. Captive is on the warmer pink side, while Amorous is more cool-toned.
Captive is a pinkish-plum color with a satin finish that I reach for when I want a little flush of color without opting for a bold lip.
Twig
I’ve raved about Twig before in a monthly favorites post, and with good reason. Before Whirl, Twig was my all-time favorite. It actually looks a little pinker in the photograph than in real life, but this is what I deem as the “your lips but better” color. Twig is a soft brownish pink shade, suitable for a variety of skin tones. It blends with your natural lip color to bring out the best shade, so keep that in mind while purchasing: it will not look the same on everyone.
The best thing about Twig is the satin finish, meaning it provides a nearly matte look without the drying factor.
Whirl
*Okay so I said that I love them all equally for different reasons, but I have to admit that Whirl is my all-time favorite. It takes precedence over the rest because the color is everything I never knew I needed. It was even featured in my most recent favorites post.
Easily, Whirl was the most talked about lipstick shade a few years ago. While it was almost annoyingly overexposed, I’m actually glad the hype happened; otherwise, we may never have gotten this shade in lipstick form. If you didn’t know, Whirl was previously only available as a lip liner. Now, it’s a permanent shade in the lipstick range.
The important thing to note about MAC’s Whirl (and all neutral lip colors) is that it doesn’t look the same on everyone. I bought it because I liked the shade in the tube, but I was a bit skeptical as to how it would look on me. To my surprise, I immediately fell in love with it.
Whirl is a beautiful dusty rose shade that works with my natural lip color to create a deeply muted everyday shade. A lipliner is not required, but I usually pair it with MAC’s Plum liner to play up the deeper tones and add more dimension. The shade is a matte finish, which is my only gripe. Satin is the best of both worlds, so I do wish MAC chose a satin finish to keep Whirl away from the dry feeling after a few hours of wear.
Diva
Diva is also a matte finish and is a gorgeous deep red shade with blue undertones. If cherry red isn’t your cup of tea but you aren’t quite ready for a nearly black lip, Diva is the happy medium. Diva is my go-to shade for a night out when I want to wear a bold lip, and I even wore it on the most recent outfit of the day post.

Feature: Pink Poodle is known as Pink Fuchsia with just a little Pinky – Gold Shimmer. It is cool, gorgeous and pigmented bright tone which make the lips very kissable and adorable when being worn on top of a lipstick. If being compared to other hot pink glosses, Pink Poodle is not extremely pigmented gloss but still enough pigment to cover any discoloration. The texture is pretty but it would be excellent if the staying power on its own could be little more. Feature: Honestly, in my MAC lip glosses collection, Nymphette is known as a perfect lipglass of glamorous neutral pink. The color of sunny golden, peachy pink with tiny shimmer is so gorgeous that would be flattering on any skin tone. It is sparkly but the glitter isn’t overly noticeable on the lips to make a perfect natural look with great shine. The texture, like other MAC best lip glosses, is sticky, thick but not gooey at all. I really satisfy with lovely sweet vanilla scent and highly appreciate the stickiness level which does make it has excellent staying power and last a little longer on my lips. What Is The Most Popular Mac Lip Liner
Feature: MAC describes Cultured as a semi-sheer light pink with a slight purple undertone (a opalescent mauve pink) with pinky-purple and silver microshimmer. It is exactly light purple in the tube but when applied to the lips, it looks like a warm pink that just makes my lips look so natural, polished and fresh. The color is so surprisingly beautiful when applied on top of a lipstick, not quite as warm toned as Nymphette, but nice mid toned pink. Because this gloss is semi-sheer, it will look much different on someone with pigmented lips. If you have pigmented lips or if you fall in dusky skin tone category, don’t bother about picking it up because of its gorgeous color and texture. It is a slightly sticky and thick gloss so that it could stays around 3 hours on my lips and does not completely fade even after a full meal.

Feature: Desire the exact shade I’ve been looking for in an romantic autumn lip colour – the stunning combination of brown, berry, and plum. MAC Desire lipglass is known to be a deep plummy burgundy shade of such a gorgeous warmed burgundywine. At first glance, it looks deceivingly dark in the tube but in fact, when being applied on lips, it’s exactly what I was looking for – a shimmer-free, slightly glossy, muted wine, with just the right amounts of brown, burgundy, and plum to balance each other out. Feature: MAC Spite Lipglass is described as a “muted plum taupe brown.” It’s a plummy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a neutral, creamy, glossy finish with no shimmer or sparkle. It’s pigmented, very shiny and can impart subtle or dramatic colour. The creamy finish visually “plumps up” smaller lips. Maybe its appearance is not attractive enough but when being applied, it turns out to be perfection and looks so gorgeous. It goes on lighter than what it looks like in the tube, on my lips it looks like a nice cappuccino colour which is close to my natural lip color, but a little deeper. Therefore, it would be an awesome shade for those with dusky and medium skin tones. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that went on fairly evenly and smoothly without gathering too much into lip lines. The lipglass is quite thick but it does not settle in the fine lines of my lips. It is also quite sticky and hence the good staying power like other MAC best lipglass.

Feature: MAC Lust is a soft pinkish-brown lipglass which has gorgeous lusty cremey colour – a great muted pink without being too pink, or too brown. To be honest, the way Lust lipglass looked in the tube discourages me so badly. It looked like a dreary deep mauve or brownish pink. However, when applying this lip gloss on lips, I have to say that Lust is really a pretty, warm rosy brown like the color of warm caramel. It is so pretty and polished on your lips and very versatile too. Lust is a very well pigmented ,thick and sticky shade of lipglass and it is not shimmery or frosty. It is creamy, soft and moisturizing almost like a liquid lipstick as opposed to a sheer lipgloss. Lust was made to be a part of MAC Mickey Contractor Collection. So it invariably is suited for most indian and asian skin tones with a natural bare face or a crazy smokey eye. Lust lipglass is one of the best MAC lipglosses which is deserved to be trust and love.

Feature: Actually, Myth is the first gloss coming to my mind when I want a truly nude lip. MAC describes Myth Lipglass as “light neutral nude” – a fantastic milky peach beige one with subtle silver sparkle and that’s pretty spot on. Myth would shines when combining with Myth lipstick as a combo of fabulous neutral nude tone. The point is that the lipglass is definitely darker and takes on a brown tone versus the peach in the lipstick so that it does make the combo a bit warmer and absolutely more natural. Mac lip gloss in general and Myth in specific are also vanilla-scented but taste-free. They are very sticky and have a thick, borderline-goopy consistency. It is said that the consistency of this shade was particularly thicker and stickier than other Mac lip gloss. Thanks to gorgeous color and texture, Myth is one of the most popular shades in the MAC cosmetics collection.

Feature: Lovechild is a nice color of “coppered plum” & it comes out as a pretty mid toned dusky mauve loaded with golden shimmers. MAC describes it just right and it indeed is a dirty plumy color with a hint of coppery brown and beautiful golden sparkles which I am in love with. To me it seems more of as a brown colour rather than plum that also can give the appearance of a neutral pink, so it caters to many different skintones. It could be said that it looks great on light to medium neutral or warm skintones . The shimmers are very fine & well merged into the texture without being pronounced ending into a healthy sheen. If you aren’t familiar with Mac lip gloss, the formula seem to be pretty thick and sticky. But do not entirely mind it because when you apply a good coat of lip balm first, the texture would be a bit better on your lips. I also enjoy the fragrance which is the identical classic vanilla of the MAC lipstick as well as its moisturizing.

Feature: Snob Lipglass is light neutral pink of an orchid with a little gray-tinge to it. If the Snob lipstick is quite as gray/cool-toned, the Lipglass seem to be more neutral and a little warmer which is partially due to the semi-opaque color. This color is pretty pigmented and creamy which looks exactly like the color lips on barbie. I love Snob Lipglass because of the greatness it looks over the lipstick and even awesome on its own. Your lips will look natural, shiny, glossy and polished. It is definitely not a slippery gloss but it lasts a very long time on lips.

MAC Oh Baby Lipglass

Feature: Oh Baby is a golden bronze lip gloss which shines with tiny multicolored shimmer flecks. This shade looks quite pigmented in the tube and in hand swatches while it comes almost clear shimmery gloss on my lips with two swipes. Though it might not have enough pigment for dark skin tones, it is flattering on most skin tones, especially suitable with Asian skin tone. Oh Baby kisses lips with a glittery golden bronze that looks particularly stunning on paired on bronze brown lipsticks with bronze and teal eyeshadows. As all MAC Lip glass, the texture is sticky but is not milky which adheres nicely on our lips. I really adore its classic vanilla fragrance. It is among the few glosses which were voted by reader on famous makeup websites as the Readers’ best choice 2012, 2009, 2005, and 2004. I’m pretty sure that you will never regret buying it.
